Bangolan Crisis: Fon Chafah XI, King Makers and Elders all sue for peace 0

The people of Bangolan have been rejoicing ever since an agreement was reached to discontinued the legal process which started last February and created an unprecedented chieftaincy dispute. The uprising in Bangolan led to a temporal dethronement of Fon Chafah XI and saw a new Fon installed. The Elders and King Makers of Bangolan have all discovered that peace is very expensive and have decided to have an out of court settlement.  Cameroon Intelligence Report gathered from sources deep inside the tribunal that court fees have already been paid and both sides have opted for a peaceful end to the affair.

We further learnt that committees have been set up to restore peace within the onetime war-zone village. The uprisings perpetrated by some disgruntled villagers were purely illegal and lacked administrative procedures to back it, says our source. Gun shots were heard in the village on March 19, 2016 when angry villagers took over the palace and demanded Fon Chafah XI to leave. The Fon was in Yaounde at the time of the incident. He returned when things were at uncontrollable proportions and could not restore law and order. All vital administrative interventions proved futile. It all started in February 2016 when Fon Chafah XI of Bangolan was dethroned for embracing Christianity.

Yaounde: Ericsson’s cream of experts say 5G will be available by 2020 0

Experts from Ericsson announced on Tuesday in Yaoundé, the nation’s capital that 5G will be available by 2020. Analyzing the telecommunications environment in Sub-Saharan Africa, Ericsson’s Special Representative for Cameroon and a cream of other senior technicians of the company revealed to a group of pressmen and women the latest information on trends and innovations in the mobile telecom market.

The experts hinted that on the recommendations of the last Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (February 2016), 5G should be ready for mass deployment by 2020. Cameroon Intelligence Report learned that the number of subscriptions associated with Smartphones is on a steady rise in Cameroon.

FORMER Chelsea and Everton striker Samuel Eto’o was married at a ceremony in Italy on Tuesday afternoon. The 35-year-old married his long time partner Georgette Tra Lou at a church in Stezzano, a small municipality 25 miles northeast of Milan.

The couple have been together for more than a decade and have five children together. Eto’o proposed in July 2014 with a €500,000 diamond ring, according to reports at the time. Former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol was among the guests at the ceremony, as was former Inter Milan owner Massimo Moratti.

Hundreds of people spilled into the streets of the small town to watch wedding guests arrive. Dressed in a grey three-piece suit with a houndstooth waistcoat and black shoes, Eto’o drove himself to the church – the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista. He arrived, rather surprisingly for someone who used to drive a £1million Bugatti Veyron to Chelsea training, in a vintage Fiat 500L.

Looking gorgeous in a long flowing white dress, his bride to be made a rather more elegant arrival in a Mercedes Excalibur.

Two Italian police officers indicted over the killing of a Cameroonian in Treviso 0

Prosecutors in Treviso, Italy have indicted two Italian police officers believed to have caused the death of a Cameroonian Donald Fombu Mboyo aka Papajah on Monday, 6 June 2016. Cameroon Intelligence Report learned that Papajah was living in the country illegally for years and resisted a deportation order.

The police violently arrested and handcuffed him. He reportedly died after he was brutally beaten by the two Italian police officers. State Counsel, Barbara Sabatttini, requested an autopsy and the opening of an investigation to determine the circumstances of the death of the late Donald Fombu. It is vital to include in this report that the late Donald Fombu Mboyo left behind a pregnant wife.

CPDM Politics:Mafany Musonge, Elvis Ngolle Ngolle, others to be installed in Buea tomorrow 0

The Secretary General of the CPDM Central Committee, Jean NKuete will travel to Buea, capital of the South West region tomorrow Thursday June 16th 2016. His visit falls in line with the recent appointments of regional and divisional delegations of the CPDM party throughout the national territory. The South West regional president, Senator Peter Mafany Musonge and his team would be installed tomorrow alongside six divisional presidents, members and their secretaries. Minister Dion Ngute, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly,Lifaka Emilia, Minister Victor Mengot, CDC Board Chairman,Benjamin Itoe, Tassong Paul and Ngolle Ngolle Elvis are all presidents of divisional delegations of the CPDM in the South West region.

The National Social Insurance hall constructed in the days of the disgraced former Prime Minister Inoni will host the event. The leadership of the Buea Council has put up welcome banners for the CPDM Secretary General. Mayor Ekema Patrick has mobilized grassroots militants to grace the installation ceremony. Cameroon Intelligence Report gathered that more than 8 million FCFA has been raised for the occasion.

In Fako, individual contributions were made yesterday with the boss of the GCE Board, Monono Humphrey dishing out the sum of FCFA 200,000 while CDC General Manager, Njie Franklin donated 250,000 FCFA at a time when the CDC senior service quarters in Tiko is crumbling in front of his watchful eyes. Some political commentators have opined that it will provide an opportunity for unity talks within the Fako CPDM family.

The Board of Directors of the National School for Penitentiary Administration (ENAP), Buea, has resolved to enter into partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education to foster quality training for those in charge of reforming prisons. The Board equally frowned at indiscipline in ENAP and cautioned the school management to be more vigilant against unruliness, especially as a new intake is currently undergoing entrance requirements.

The Board met in Buea on 10 June 2016 in its 27th ordinary session and considered cases of indiscipline. As a former colonial Prison Warder School transformed into ENAP in 1992, the worry about indiscipline in the 24-year-old school followed the recent dismissal of four students for gross indiscipline by the Minister of State, Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals. The Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice in charge of the Penitentiary Administration, Doh Jerome Penbaga, sat in for the titular Minister at the meeting.

The salient points on the agenda included the day-to-day running of the school, improvement of the school curriculum, the general well-being of students and staff, ENAP’s budget and its projected new site at Lysoka, Buea. Penbaga expressed satisfaction with ENAP staff and Director, Fonkem Immaculate, for working tirelessly in spite of insufficient resources. He underscored that the architectural work was on course to move ENAP to its new site at Lysoka, Buea.

Board members evaluated activities and appraised the level of implementation of recommendations from the preceding 26th Ordinary Session of the Board. The Board further resolved to sign an agreement in the days ahead with the Ministry of Higher Education to foster quality training of penitentiary personnel. This falls in line with the new vision of the State regarding penitentiary reforms. The National School for Penitentiary Administration has as main mission the training and retraining of penitentiary personnel, with the Board of Directors as the highest administrative organ. It has a current enrolment of 585 students and 74 staff.

Gabon: President Ali Bongo’s birth certificate generates another political crisis 0

The opposition is working towards a coalition to have incumbent President Ali Bongo disqualified from running for the presidency. Casimir Oyé Mba, the candidate of the National Union (UN) party in the August 27, 2016  presidential election in Gabon is determined to ensure that incumbent  President Ali Bongo is disqualified from standing for the second term of office in the election.  This is because he claims that Ali Bongo has acquired the Gabonese nationality which in accordance with Article 10 of the Constitution prohibits him from running for the presidency, RI reported.

In an interview over RFI, Sunday, June 12, 2016, Mr Oyé  Mba called on all other candidates to form an alliance to ensure that Ali Bongo’s candidature is rejected.  Before the interview, he had challenged Ali Bongo, to defend before the two Houses of Parliament (Senate and National Assembly) his multiple birth certificates. He claims that Ali Bongo is not constitutionally qualified to run for the presidency of Gabon. Speaking during a press conference, he said Ali Bongo cannot delegate the powers to any other person to answer questions concerning his birth certificate saga.

In response to the claim by Oyé Mba, President Ali Bongo’s lawyer, Claude Dumont declared that the debate over the President’s birth certificate was over, RFI reported. The lawyer said justice should be allowed to take its course, assuring that the case concerning the civil status of Ali Bongo will be declared baseless and consequently null and void.  The lawyer said they were waiting for the opposition to bring proves of their claims.

Democratic presidential race comes to an end with Clinton winning the contest 0

The Democratic presidential race has officially come to an end with Hillary Clinton winning the primary contest in the US capital, gaining nearly 79 percent of the vote. Clinton, who already had enough delegates to be her party’s presumptive nominee, won the Tuesday primary in the District of Columbia. The former secretary of state also met with rival Bernie Sanders Tuesday night and talked about the Democratic Party platform to be drawn up at this summer’s convention.

“We’re going to have a wide-ranging conversation, because we share a lot of the same goals,’’ Clinton said Tuesday night in an interview with Telemundo, an American Spanish-language broadcast television network. “We both want to raise the minimum wage, we want to fight inequality of income, we want to make college affordable and we certainly want everybody to get health care.”

“I very much am looking forward to having his support in this campaign, because Donald Trump poses a serious threat to our nation,” she added. Sanders has not formally ended his campaign and has not endorsed Clinton either. He has promised to give every voter a chance to decide between the two candidates. Nonetheless, the Vermont senator has said he’s committed to working with Clinton to defeat Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee. “Our goal must not be to allow politicians, Donald Trump or anyone else, to divide us,” he said outside his headquarters in Washington, DC.

World War III: Nuclear powers updating their arsenals and delivery capabilities 0

Nuclear powers are updating their arsenals and delivery capabilities despite a fall in the number of nuclear warheads, a Swedish think tank says.  The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said in its annual report that nine nuclear powers possessed a total of some 15,400 warheads as of January, compared with 15,850 last year. Russia holds 7,290 of the world’s nuclear warheads, followed by the US with 7,000. The two countries possess about 93 percent of the world’s nuclear weapons.

France is the third nuclear power with 300 nuclear weapons, ahead of China, the UK, India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea. The Stockholm-based think tank said the US and Russia “have extensive and expensive nuclear modernization programs under way.”Washington plans to spend $348 billion before 2024 on maintaining and updating its nuclear forces, SIPRI said.According to some estimates, Washington’s nuclear weapon modernization program may cost up to $1 trillion over the next 30 years,” it added.

“The ambitious US modernization plan presented by the Obama administration is in stark contrast to President Barack Obama’s pledge to reduce the number of nuclear weapons and the role they play in US national security strategy,” said Hans Kristensen, one of the authors of the report.

Alex Song close to Galatasaray deal 0

Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, who has spent the last two seasons on loan with West Ham, is close to sealing a move to Galatasaray.  According to ‘fotospor’, Song has reached an agreement with the Turkish club, but now must wait for them to agree a deal with Barça as the he remains under contract at Camp Nou until 2017.

The 27-year-old’s agent Darren Dein and Galatasaray’s sporting director Cenk Ergun have reportedly agreed on a three-year deal worth 1.5 million euros per season.  Now Galatasaray must contract Barça if they wish to push the transfer through, although the Catalan club may be prepared to let Song leave for free.

He played 16 games for West Ham this season and a return to the Premier League side for a third season has been ruled out.
