Cameroon celebrates World Teachers Day 0
Cameroonian teachers have joined their counterparts all over the globe to observe World Teacher’s Day celebrated under the theme “Valuing teachers, improving their status”. In all administrative headquarters officials rally and organised special ceremonies to pay homage to this group that constitute the foundation of every society
In Yaounde, a cream of dignitaries accompanied the ministers of Basic Education, Secondary Education and Higher Education to commemorate the day. The event that held at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex was presided over by the Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf Hadidja Alim who called on cabinet colleagues to reflect on all issues concerning teachers in Cameroon.
Focusing on the theme, Youssouf Hadidja made public the strides taken by government in improving the teaching environment in the country and acknowledged that Cameroon still falls short of international standards.
Today’s ceremony was also spiced by a message of encouragement from the UNESCO Secretary General, Irina Bokova. Some teachers were honoured and encouraged by the CPDM regime. World Teacher’s Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO in 1994 to highlight the role of teachers in the society.
